Roster Book Puzzles

Did you know that Atelier 17 maintained a roster book, which records the names of many individuals who passed through the studio after it reopened in Paris in 1950?

Many of the names on these pages are already known. But many names are completely unknown. Often, all we have is a last name and, if we’re lucky, a first initial.

As we continue to edit and expand our database of Atelier 17’s members, we're turning to you for help with identifying these unknowns.

Each week, we will share pages from the roster book via Google Drive, with unknown names highlighted in yellow. We warmly invite you to comment directly on these documents with any information you can share, whether it's a full identification, a possible lead, or contextual knowledge. You may also email Elizabeth Tran, research assistant in charge of the roster project.

Your expertise and insights could be the key to unlocking these archival mysteries, allowing us to piece together the historical gaps.
